5 Fun DIY Centerpieces for Any Event

Having the perfect table centerpiece for your event is important. A centerpiece sets the tone for the entire event and can be a great conversation ice breaker for guests. Check out these five do-it-yourself centerpieces that are suitable for any event!

1. Glitter Mason Jar Candles

Glitter Mason Jar Candles

Glitter Mason Jars are perfect for corporate parties, weddings, bar and bat mitzvahs, holidays and more! Grab a few mason jars, glitter, Elmer’s glue and a small paintbrush. Mix a little bit of water and glue together to make a ‘glue wash’. Brush the glue wash on the inside of the mason jar. Add glitter to the inside of the jar and roll the jar around until the glitter coats all sides. Let the final product dry and stick a small tea light candle inside.

You can use any glitter color to fit the theme of your event! In this picture, CakeryPapery used silver.

2. Floating Flower Centerpiece

Floating Flower Centerpiece

Floating flower centerpieces create an elegant touch to your event with minimum effort. A set of stemless wine glasses, water, flowers and scissors are all you need to make this gorgeous piece. Fill ¾ of a stemless wine glass with room temperature water. Either using real or silk flowers, snip about 1 inch from the bud of the flower so 1 inch of the stem is left. Place this in the wine glass and watch this centerpiece come to life! If you are using silk flowers, spray a very light mist of your favorite perfume on the flower before putting it into the wine glass!

3. Wine Bottle Centerpiece

Wine Bottle Centerpiece

There are hundreds of centerpieces you can make with just a few wine bottles. This example is easy, versatile, and fun to do. To do this specific centerpiece, you will need wine bottles, spray paint, primer, metallic paint and round paint sponges. The first step is to prime your wine bottles if they are a dark brown or green color. Once the primer dries, spray on your chosen paint color and let dry. Once dry, pour the metallic paint on a paper plate and dab the round sponge into the paint. Gently dab the sponge onto the wine glass where your design is preferred. Once the completed bottle is dry, add flowers, branches, balloons or other items to dress the bottle up and make the perfect centerpiece (it will even look great without anything added!).

Projectwedding.com recommends calling to local restaurants and offering to pick up empty wine bottles! Check out all of the steps with pictures at Project Wedding.

4. Cupcake Bouquet Centerpiece

Cupcake Bouquet Centerpiece

This centerpiece is a great way to get guests enthused about dessert! To create this delicious centerpiece, you will need small flowerpots, cupcakes, styrofoam balls, tissue paper and toothpicks. Place the styrofoam ball into the flowerpot (you will need to make sure you buy styrofoam balls that are just the right size for your flower pots). Stick two toothpicks in each area where you would like a cupcake. It is important to insert each toothpick at a 45-degree angle so the cupcake does not slide off. Slide your prepared cupcakes on each pair of the toothpicks. Once all cupcakes are placed tightly together, cut small strips of tissue paper and add them in between each cupcake.

5. Hot Air Balloon Centerpiece

Hot Air Balloon Centerpiece

Hot Air Balloon Centerpieces are going to wow your guests. These centerpieces are fun, elegant and are a piece to remember. This particular centerpiece can be made many different ways, either with rope, netting, ribbon, string and more. Gather your preferred “netting” material, helium filled balloons, a glue gun, baskets and flowers. Tie the netting material together so it makes a wide checker pattern that will hold your balloon in place. Place this over the balloon and attach it to the basket with a hot glue gun. Once the glue is dry, place your favorite flowers into the basket and you have a perfect centerpiece!
